P.S. Jack did make a point at the end to comment about retracting strikes in sparring. As demonstrated by Andre, this is critical to maintaining balance in driving on offense. Not doing so is also a strong indicator your footwork could be improved, because overextending to the target shows the feet have been left behind on the drive! Its not necessarily a fighting stylistic point, but a balance point. This is fundamental to throwing combinations. Of course, we are all grateful that was Jack's sole public comment, other than a rarely inspired hearty cheer down at Sully's ...which by the way means you all did very good yesterday!

Here's a copy of some vocabulay notes I used for my first test. I have some other people looking it over and hopefully will have a new and more correct version soon. I hope it's useful to other students.

Everyone,

Please rember to bring equipment to participate in the sparring session at the last half of these monthly classes. The school has some old basic foam pad sets, but the selection is slim.

Mouthpiece ...Cup Protection ...Hand Pads ...Foot/Shin Pads, ...and Headgear are available at a variety of price ranges.

Please see/contact Billy G. for advice and options.

For those of you who haven't had a chance to make it to one of our Friday night sessions you should come and check it out. It's not a traditional class. A gi isn't mandatory. We focus more on drill work and conditioning. Real good sweat. We spar at the end so bring your gear if you want to take part in that. All levels of ability welcome.
